Football Betting Tips: Crystal Palace vs Southampton

Crystal Palace prop up the Premier League table after a disastrous start to the 2017-18 campaign. The Eagles sacked Frank de Boer on Monday after 4 defeats in 4 matches and their failure to score in any of their 4 matches could have been a decisive factor in the board’s decision to get rid of the Dutchman. Southampton head up to Selhurst Park fresh off the back of a chastening home defeat to Watford and Mauricio Pellegrino has plenty of work to do at St Mary’s.

English Premier League – Crystal Palace vs Southampton – Selhurst Park

Kick-off: 12.30 GMT

Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson has been tasked with resurrecting Palace’s season and that does not look like an easy task. The 70 year old has not had a managerial role in football since his England debacle at Euro 2016 and he will need to hit the ground running here.

As mentioned, Palace have failed to score as yet in the Premier League this term and they will be looking to Christian Benteke to lead the line here against the Saints. Hodgson has a wealth of talent at his disposal in the Palace ranks and he’ll be looking to the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Andros Townsend to spur his team on to their first league points this term.

The Saints sit in 13th place in the Premier League table, having collected 5 points from their first 4 games. Goals are seeming to be the problem for Pellegrino’s charges who’ve only scored 3 times in all competitions this term – all of which came in one game (3-2 win over West Ham United).

The summer transfer window was dominated by speculation over the future of want-away defender Virgil Van Djik – who ultimately remained at St Mary’s despite repeated interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. The Dutchman is expected to play some part in this one and it will be interesting to see what reaction he is given from the travelling fans,

Head to Head

This will be the 105th meeting between these 2 sides with Southampton edging the head to head 44:38 with 22 draws shared between the pair.
The two sides met 3 times last season with Southampton winning their 2 home games (2-0 and 3-1). Palace also picked up three points in their home game – a 3-0 triumph in December 2016.

Odds and Predictions

Crystal Palace haven’t scored yet in the league this season and need a goal urgently.
Bournemouth to score first looks good value at 5/4.

Both teams to score – YES – 5/6 with Sky Bet.

Christian Benteke didn’t deliver for Frank de Boer but will feel he has a point to prove here.

New managers are notorious for giving their teams a boost when they first arrive at the club.
Crystal Palace to win the match is 2/1 with Ladbrokes.

Betting Tip Spain v Italy

This is a crucial game in Group G of the World Cup Qualifying, with the two joint leaders of the group going head to head. This game looks set to decide who will top the group and who will have to go through the two legged playoff qualifying to cement their place in Russia.

With so much at stake, this game is sure to be full on tension and neither team will want to make a mistake. There is still the chance for someone to slip up, they both have three games left after this one, but they all look winnable and it would be a huge shock if either dropped points in those games.

Spain Form

Spain have not lost yet in their qualifying, winning five games out of their six, the other game was a 1-1 draw away in Italy. They have looked impressive, but the quality of opposition in front of them has not been the greatest, aside from Italy they were handed a very easy group.

Spain will want to avoid the playoffs to qualify for Russia, they could find themselves with a very tough draw in that round and qualification would not be certain for them. That is something their fans will not even want to think about, and having a World Cup without Spain would be very strange.

Spain have three winnable games after the game against Italy, those are at home to Albania and away to Liechtenstein and Isreal. A win here would give them a three point advantage over Italy and would surely be enough looking at who they have left to play in their final three games.

Italy Form

Italy have exactly the same record as Spain in the tournament, winning five out of their six qualification games. The only game they didn’t win was the home draw to Spain, and aside from that they have impressed so far. The quality they have played hasn’t been the best but we all know how good Italy are, they don’t need to prove anything.

Just like Spain, Italy will not fancy qualifying through the playoffs, they could find themselves in trouble if they go down that route. They have every chance of landing a tough draw in the playoffs and that would put their qualification in doubt. Just like Spain, a World Cup without Italy would be very strange.

After this one, Italy have three games that they should win, with home games against Isreal and Macedonia and an away trip to Albania. A win would give them a great chance to top the group, while defeat would more than likely send them into the playoffs.

Team News

New Chelsea signing Alvaro Morata looks likely to play in attack for Spain during this game and he is an exciting forward who will be important for his country. Team mate Pedro is likely to line-up alongside him, while veteran David Villa is back in the squad after playing so well in the MLS for New York City.

The attacking play of Italy all focuses around Andrea Belotti, he looks set to be the future of Italian football after hugely impressing for Torino. He is their captain at just 23 and is sure to have a huge career with whichever club he ends up signing for, as well as for his national team.

Top Betting Tips

This game has huge importance at the top of World Cup Qualifying Group G. Although there are four games to go in the group, the final three are very easy for these two teams, so it is this game here that will decide who wins the group, barring any huge shocks. I am convinced that whoever wins this game will win the group, with the loser of the game heading into the playoffs in what will be a tough way of qualifying for Russia.

In what is going to be a very tight game, and a very important one, I am going to back Spain to win this game, although the normal win market offers little value. With that in mind I am going to back a correct score to find some value and the score I am backing is 1-0 to Spain, which can be backed at 5/1 with William Hill.

I think the game will be tight, with the odd goal being enough to separate the teams and hopefully that means the game goes the way of Spain, with a 1-0 victory for them.

Football Betting Tips: Manchester United vs Everton

Following a set back at Stoke last week, Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. Mourinho’s men bounced back in midweek with a comprehensive Champions League win over Basel at Old Trafford and will be eager to show that the Stoke draw was just a blip. Everton in contrast have had a disastrous week, conceding 6 goals in 2 games to Tottenham and Atalanta and Ronald Koeman has spoken of his frustration at his team’s inconsistencies.

English Premier League – Manchester United vs Everton – Old Trafford, Sunday 17th September 2017, Kick-off: 16.00 GMT

  • Manchester United – Best Odds – 4/11 (Bet 365)
  • Everton – Best Odds – 11/1 (Bet Victor)
  • Draw – Best Odds  9/2 (Marathon Bet)

Manchester United

United conceded their first 2 goals of the season last week at the Bet 365 but showed great resilience to pick up a point against the Potters. Romelu Lukaku’s form for United this season has been remarkable – scoring 5 goals in all competitions and he would love to keep this run going against his former employers.

Phil Jones’s performance at Stoke came under fire and it will be interesting to see if the notoriously cut-throat Mourinho sticks with the England international at centre half.

The predominance of the intrigue around the game will be centred on Wayne Rooney and his return to Old Trafford. Rooney spent 13 fruitful seasons with the Red Devils and is sure to get a fantastic reception on his return.

Having conceded 8 goals in their last 3 matches, big questions are being levelled at the likes of Michael Keane in the Everton back line and they will need a big performance to keep the Red Devils at bay.

Head to Head

Manchester United  unsurprisingly lead the historical head to head with a 85:69 lead with 43 competitive draws also taking place between the two English giants.

Last season the teams met twice with 1-1 draws taking place at Goodison Park – with a late Leighton Baines penalty evening things up and at Old Trafford an injury time penalty from Zlatan Ibrahimovic salvaging a point for United.

Odds and Predictions

Manchester United are unbeaten this season and are in imperious form.

United to score first looks a banker bet at 1/3 with Betway.

Everton have failed to score in their last 3 games in all competitons.

Under 2.5 goals in the game looks overpriced at 43/40 with Bet 365.

Romelu Lukaku has been in superb form since his switch from Merseyside to Manchester.

Lukaku looks good value at 4/5 with Bet 365 to score anytime here.

With so many players returning to former clubs – it could be a spicy one.

A sending off in the match could well happen at 4/1 with Sky Bet.
